Cleveland Cavaliers Owner Shares Inspiring Message to Fans While Shading the Boston Celtics After Game 4 Loss

Dan Gilbert’s tweet looks harmless on its face. But if you read the latter part of his post, it’s actually taking a shot at the Boston Celtics, who had a huge free-throw advantage over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Boston attempted 24 free throws and made 21, while Cleveland only had seven attempts and made five.

The 62-year-old billionaire is not a stranger to voicing his complaints online, although he was quite subtle this time. The most famous example is when Dan Gilbert wrote a now-deleted letter to fans in 2010 after LeBron James left his team for the first time. 

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland seems to agree with Dan Gilbert’s subtle jab, calling the free throw disparity ‘ridiculous’.

“That’s ridiculous,” Garland said after Game 4. “It’s tough to get just seven free throws. I know how many times I get hit and how many times my teammates get hit. It’s tough.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers were already at a major disadvantage when it was announced that Donovan Mitchell wouldn’t play in Game 4 due to a calf injury. Mitchell was the latest addition to the team’s injury list alongside Jarrett Allen, who remains sidelined with a rib injury.

After trailing by double digits in the fourth period, the Cleveland Cavaliers cut the Boston Celtics’ advantage to five points. However, Jaylen Brown’s big three-pointer with 1:08 left iced the game.

Darius Garland led Cleveland with 30 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and four three-pointers, while Evan Mobley and Caris LeVert had 19 points apiece, and Max Strus added 15.
